In 2016, I decided to embark on an experimental film. With a background in Marketing and Cinematography, I was yet to make a film by myself.

One day, while sitting with a group of friends, we decided to challenge ourselves and made a short film only the gear we had. Nothing was hired nor purchased specifically for “The Briefcase”.

We decided to film “The Briefcase” within 2 nights, due to location changes. The film had no budget and was entirely input from the crew I had assembled. I was fortunate enough to own a Sony A7S mark I with Atomos recorder.

After a few heavy nights of post production and a couple of beer’s, we had a film in hand. Not knowing what to do next, I happened upon an email’s with an invitation to submit short films to Made In The West Film Festival.

In Dec 2016 I was awarded the “Best Cinematographer” award at Made in the West Film Festival.

I not only gained an award but also made new friends!

Made in the West film festival has been highly beneficial for me as a young film maker. I would encourage all up coming film makers to enter this film festival as it’s not only about winning awards but also making new and promising connections with like minded and highly talented people.

The film festival has given me support and encouragement to make more films. Since the film festival, I have done 2x Web Series, 3x Short Films, 2x Feature films and have signed up another 2x feature films this year. Life has been busy and I must say, sometimes that extra encouragement goes a long way.

After a few months down the track, Rachael Belle Myers (Best Film Award), Scott Connor (Best Director Award) and Rah Sharma (Best Cinematographer Award) combined forces to create a short films “Curated Illusions”
